Feather & Chain

Everyone has their obsession,
Watching the cat chase the
Feather and chain
Uncontrollably,
Despite being tired
Clearly slowing,
Wishing the child toting it
Would slow
Or pause in their gait,
Abate their laps and allow them to just linger,
Bask in the joy of
Simplicity,
Movement,
Unpredictable,
Chaos theory exerted
On the end of a silvery heaven
Dangling in perpetuity.

Is it too easy a thing to liken this
To our game
Long gone nearly half a year now,
The dangling your anticipation,
Blindfolded and tortured tenderly
By feather and rope?

The chained bird sings
Because it can,
The sky in its’ voice
Despite feathers clipped by iron,
So the only wind it might know any longer
Is its own.
