Dear Jill

Dear Jill,

You were serenity and defiance wrapped in a quilt of tattoos and tenacity,
Calamity was your calling card and I should have known better but I couldn’t help it,
you kissed strangers and left me wanting,
even more so in your engagement that you would eventually fulfill,
but you let me bare your breasts and in turn I bared my scars to you.

We ate our insecurities with our late-night breakfast and never made it to dessert,
you were much too beguiling for banana cream pie,
incandescent only in the candlelight that let me keep on burning for you;
we took a left at Albuquerque and arrived in Antarctica,
late night texts turned from arbitration to arbitrary.

I became an artifact of your once-wily ways now lost to time and matrimony,
A photo long deleted on a phone from two lives ago;
I never got my fairy tale,
Just grim reality,
Where hearts are broken every day,
And then some day you meet the grave.

Reflex

Knee-jerk, extracted all our wetworks,
heart hurts, reflexively assertive,
unplanned, just malaise of butt-hurt feelings,
left the both  of us reeling,
packed the good times in the ceiling attic,
turned our future plans to static,
acting erratic and shifting into manic;
I said I wanted to go but through my teeth I lied,
now I’m wishing for a psycho-cide,
die, Id, die.

Rhymer’s Block

Got a jump start on tomorrow’s prompt and got it done tonight too – Rhymer’s Block is a typical argument between a married couple, except the whole thing rhymes. It was one of the prompts I set for myself before #31plays31days kicked off and decided to tackle it today since I find rhyme fairly easy and Sandwich finished so quickly.

Don’t Tread On Me – NaPoWriMo #14

A bluesy song for day fourteen.
___________________________________
Don’t tread on me (don’t tread on me),
Don’t tread on me (don’t tread on me),
If you could only see just what it do to me,
Please darling don’t tread on me.

It might be too late
To avoid this fate,
And you can hardly wait, I only irritate,
Please darling don’t tread on me.

And though our time has come,
You’re still the only one,
Although I’m on the curb, and mostly ignored
Please darling don’t you tread on me.

The hurt’s within your smile,
How it still beguiles,
You know it’s got me riled still from a hundred miles,
Please darling don’t tread on me.

Don’t tread on me (don’t tread on me),
Don’t tread on me (don’t tread on me),
If you could only see just what it do to me,
Please darling don’t tread on me.

You Can Read This in Which and Any Way That You Please

You can read this in which and any way that you please,

because you’re still going to make messes with the greatest of ease.

Yet nearly a year, we’re still here, though the road has been rocky at best.

Both east to Far Rock now and westward to Staten,

yet we’ll always have Brooklyn, our center to stand in.

You see with flaws come perfection, if this I could see clearly,

on the daily basis and

still think it uneerie.

It’s like you keep peering down deeper than self still exists,

the proverbial “we,” turned subsequently to reality.

Because I’m pissy, preoccupied, and preposterously prone to prissy fits of pessimistic pretension.

If only this, the things I never say every day,

You make me see myself in a different way.

You make me see myself in a different way.
