16/30 – effigy

Burn brightly,

blazing edifice,

arms upturned, sojourning into cinder,

so long, farewell, effigy,

we love you because you are set aflame,

a spectacle, so we don’t have to be,

a sacrifice, to smolder in our stead,

a sculpture made manifest with dreaming,

a simulacrum storing our sanctity and sacrilege,

so long, farewell, goodbye.

14/30 – giddy

Quizzical, adulation physical, giddy in a prospect in discoursing on the spiritual,

visual, vivacious, vicariously vested,

seldom stresses tested, bested by the burgeoning braggart at the bar,

making ardor far, formulating instead of taking chances,

part man, part portrait, frozen in acrylic filament,

a self-inflicted torture that nitpicks the predicament,

thrills every minute but doesn’t want to change the present stage,

comfort in an unturned page,

wages jester’s gesticulating might generate generosity,

pauper’s philosophy, fairly flustered by the long form,

runs to join the circus to abandon all the norms.

5/30 – Temple

There she stood,

Grace on earth,

A testament to ingenuity,

Brilliance in wood,

Simple slats tucked into each other

making a haven for every

inkstain remembrance and offered sacrifice

of pain and heartache and loss,

where a dozen tongues and rituals mixed

to make a melody of hurt and healing,

to offer spirit to even the most jaded,

the hardest of hearts.

O, Temple, you burned bright,

twisting tornado upon itself,

every ember an avalanche of emotion that poured in upon itself and flitted on the desert wind,

a memory of a memory,

an ethereal recollection that only lives in words and the hearts that walked away from you,

tears in every eye.
